1978 Gibson Les Paul 25/50 Anniversary Flame Top
In really excellent original condition, the body of this 1978 Gibson Les Paul Anniversary Flame Top is incredibly clean and
the original tobacco burst finish is very strong, no discernible wear to the fingerboard or frets, all of the gold colored metal work is wear free. The TP-6 tailpiece is working 100% and is stable and accurate, excellent condition original protector case with red lining with, get this….. 3 perfect condition clasps, every single one is present and correct and fully functional!
The Gibson Les Paul 25/50 Anniversary model was issued to commemorate the 25th anniversary of the Les Paul model (not quite accurate though, 1977 was actually the 25th year), and the 50th anniversary of Les Paul’s career in the music business. Gibson had deduced that there was a market for anniversary model Les Paul’s (how right they were!) after the success of the 20th Anniversary Les Paul Custom in 1974. Given that it carried a street price of $1,299 34yrs ago the Les Paul 25/50 model was a success, with shipping totals of 3,411 guitars during 1978 and 1979.
The 25/50 model is a distinctive model in the Les Paul line up for many reasons, it features a unique and intricate pearl and abalone “25/50” headstock inlay design, abalone side dot marker inlays, highly figured flame maple top, five piece flamed maple neck, split block parallelogram inlays (one of only two Les Paul models to utilize these inlays), large control cavity, gold truss rod cover inscribed with “Les Paul Anniversary”, brass nut, and a coil tap mini-switch the guitars were issued with the much loved protector case with red lining.
