1972 Gibson Les Paul Standard ’58 Reissue #8-1127
Very possibly the first ever reissue run by Gibson. I had heard of these guitars before but never ever seen one in person with the 1958 serial number.
The guitar has had the same owner since 1974, quite a few changes have been made but all minor and nothing structural.
The pots date to 1972 and if you look closely at the neck pickup you can clearly see “GIBSON” indented into the bobbing top. This indent would have come from the pickup cover being impressed with the Gibson logo, the cover has long since disappeared but again this type of Gibson Humbucker helps narrow the construction year.
The Bigsby appears to be factory fitted, it was certainly on the guitar in ’74. Pickup rings are not original, tuning keys are repros but the originals are in the case pocket, the knobs and backplates are not original to the guitar.
The sunburst models are very very rare. Includes nice original hardshell case.
