2001 Fender Strat Burgundy Mist Signature Carve by Freda Payne
Superb piece of rock meets R&B memorabilia:
The guitar belonged to Bobby Bilan of The Guess Who. Back in 2001 he was working in LA with The Guess Who bass player Jim Kale & their business manager Leo Lewis (now with LA based newspaper “The Union Jack”). The guys were all there for the grand opening of the nightspot ‘Tsunami’s and Bobby was introduced to Freda Payne. The discussion turned to Freda possibly stepping in for the retiring Tina Turner; one thing led to another and it was decided that Freda would do to Bobby’s Burgundy Mist strat what Tina had done to Jeff Becks pink Jackson, namely, take a number of sharp objects and carve your name in there (see the image of the magazine cover with JB with his pink Jackson after the signature was applied).
The guitar has been hardly used since then and is in near mint condition. The guitar has lived in the vintage style case you see in the images for the last 10 years. This case is not original to the guitar but the guitar will be supplied in the correct original hardshell case.
