Dave Of England Zemaitis Replica Jimi Hendrix 1960 12 String + Photos Of Tony Z
The very first Dave Of England guitar ever made using jigs (jig 7 in this case) and materials supplied to Dave Brewis by Tony Zemaitis. Tony played this very guitar and even supplied a genuine Zemaitis label for it. The guitar was constructed from the very jig that Tony Zemaitis used for Jimi’s 1960 Zemaitis 12 string.
It is designed to be strung and tuned just like the original, tuning down 2 whole tones so the low E becomes low C ( this was also Jimi’s tuning for his 12 string). You can achieve a very earthy leadbelly tone by this tuning style.
The guitar is solid mahogany and spruce, ebony fingerboard and purple heart headstock overlay supplied from Tony Zs veneer stock. The truss rod cover is also purple heart and is inlaid and flush fitting. There is a handmade pearl inlay on the rear of the headstock depicting Jimi playing “Here My Train a Coming” on his 1960 Zemaitis 12 string, there is also a pearly inlay on the front of the headstock.
The label was notated and initialed by Tony in 2000 “Jigs Passed to D.Brewis For Duplication TZ 2000”, we have a very detailed letter from Dave discussing the guitar at length.
It has undergone a number of repairs over the years but is 100% structurally sound with a superb action.
Complete with a 1970 hardshell case handmade by Tony Zemaitis.
